Privacy you can inspect
PDF Toolkit runs entirely in your browser. Every tool — merge, split, compress, convert, edit, sign, redact — uses JavaScript running on your own device. There is no backend server. There is no database.
Nothing you upload here is uploaded anywhere. When you open a PDF or image, it stays on your device. The application does not upload document contents. Downloaded files stay wherever you save them. Workspace names, favorite tools and recent tool IDs are stored in this browser; documents are not stored by the app.
How it actually works
PDF manipulation uses pdf-lib v1.17.1. PDF rendering for JPG export and live previews uses pdf.js v4.10.38. CV export uses html2pdf.js v0.14.0. Batch downloads are zipped client-side with JSZip. All libraries run locally in your browser — no API calls, no analytics on your documents.
You can verify this yourself: open the browser's DevTools → Network tab. Document processing does not send document contents to a server. Site hosting, Google Fonts and the OCR model provider can receive normal connection information such as your IP address. OCR downloads an English language model when needed.
Who it's for
Anyone who values their privacy. Students turning in assignments. Developers shipping contracts. Freelancers sending invoices. People who just don't want their tax documents sitting on someone else's server.
Honest limitations
We're not going to pretend to be perfect. Here's what we can't do:
• OCR extracts English text to TXT and can make mistakes. The language model needs an initial internet connection.
• Encrypted PDFs are rejected. Open an authorized, unencrypted copy first.
• Compression produces image-only pages, losing selectable text, links and forms. Some files become larger.
• File limits: 100 MB per file and 200 MB per selection. Complex PDFs can exhaust browser memory below those limits.
Always review downloaded documents. Signature images are not certificate-based digital signatures. Cropping hides content; use redaction to remove it. Redaction rasterizes every page and removes original text, attachments and metadata.
